Founded in 2004, Te mana o te moana is a nonprofit marine conservation organization dedicated to protecting sea turtles and the extraordinary marine ecosystems of French Polynesia.
At its sea turtle rehabilitation center in Tahiti, the organization rescues and cares for sick, injured and weakened turtles affected by fishing gear entanglement, boat collisions, pollution, poaching and other threats. Through specialized veterinary care and rehabilitation, the team works to return recovered turtles to the ocean whenever possible.
Since its founding, the rehabilitation program has cared for more than 679 sea turtles, including green, hawksbill, olive ridley and loggerhead turtles. Many of these animals have suffered injuries caused by human activities.
Beyond rescue, Te mana o te moana conducts scientific research and conservation programs focused on sea turtle populations, nesting habitats and the wider marine environment. Its work includes monitoring nesting sites, identifying individual turtles and contributing to the protection of Polynesia's rich marine biodiversity.
Education is another essential part of its mission. Through school programs, interactive workshops and environmental awareness initiatives, the organization has introduced more than 150,000 children to the importance of protecting marine life.
Supporters can contribute through donations, volunteering and conservation partnerships. Every contribution helps provide veterinary treatment, food and rehabilitation for injured turtles while supporting research and education.
By combining hands-on animal rescue with scientific research and community engagement, Te mana o te moana is helping secure a safer future for sea turtles and the oceans of French Polynesia.
