Founded in 1988, MEDASSET (Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles) is an international environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their natural habitats throughout the Mediterranean.
With decades of experience in marine conservation, MEDASSET combines scientific research, habitat protection, environmental education and policy advocacy to safeguard endangered sea turtles and the ecosystems they depend on.
Protecting Nesting Beaches
Sea turtles face increasing threats from coastal development, tourism, pollution and human disturbance. MEDASSET works to identify and protect important nesting habitats, including critical beaches in Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.
Its conservation efforts help improve environmental protection measures and encourage governments to enforce existing wildlife legislation.
Science and Conservation
MEDASSET supports scientific monitoring and research to better understand sea turtle populations, migration patterns and the threats they face. The organization also works with conservation partners to reduce accidental turtle capture in fishing operations and strengthen marine biodiversity protection.
Education and Awareness
Through educational programmes, public campaigns and community initiatives, MEDASSET encourages people to take responsibility for the Mediterranean Sea and its wildlife.
The organization also shares information about sea turtle rescue and first aid, helping people respond appropriately when they encounter injured or stranded turtles.
A Voice for Mediterranean Sea Turtles
As a partner of the United Nations Environment Programme's Mediterranean Action Plan and a permanent observer to the Bern Convention, MEDASSET helps bring sea turtle conservation into international environmental policy.
Through donations and partnerships, supporters can contribute to scientific research, habitat protection and education programmes that give Mediterranean sea turtles a better chance of survival.
By protecting sea turtles, MEDASSET helps safeguard the wider marine ecosystems that countless other species depend on.
