Founded in 2019 by marine biologist, wildlife photographer and conservationist Robert Marc Lehmann, Mission Erde e.V. is a German nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting wildlife, preserving natural habitats and inspiring people to take action for our planet.
One of its central marine conservation activities is the removal of abandoned fishing nets, commonly known as ghost nets. These nets continue trapping and killing marine animals long after being lost or discarded. Through challenging underwater expeditions, Robert Marc Lehmann and his team recover ghost nets and other marine debris, helping protect vulnerable ocean ecosystems.
Beyond ocean conservation, Mission Erde supports wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release projects, combats illegal wildlife exploitation and contributes to the long-term protection of endangered habitats, including tropical rainforests.
The organization combines hands-on conservation with powerful visual storytelling. Through documentary films, photography, YouTube and social media, Mission Erde brings environmental challenges directly to millions of viewers, encouraging people to understand, appreciate and protect nature.
Mission Erde also collaborates with local and international conservation organizations, providing financial support, equipment, scientific expertise and media visibility to projects that might otherwise struggle to reach a wider audience.
Community engagement and environmental education are essential parts of its work. By involving volunteers, schools and supporters in practical conservation activities, Mission Erde turns awareness into action.
Through donations and partnerships, supporters can help fund wildlife rescue operations, ghost net removal, habitat protection and environmental education.
Mission Erde demonstrates how courage, scientific knowledge and compelling storytelling can inspire real-world conservation action and help protect the future of our planet.
